Is It Possible to Perform PC Repair on Water Damage

Can You Fix a Water Damaged PC?

PC repair is possible when it has suffered water damage. Here is what you should do if you spill water on your computer.

Steps to Save a Water-Damaged PC

You will need to take a few quick steps to save your PC from possible damage. Here is what you should do.

Switch Off and Unplug the PC

Before you start to search “computer water damage repair,” you need to act fast, so you must switch off the computer as soon as possible. This reduces the chances the computer’s circuits will be damaged and will also prevent electronic shorts. Whether you have spilled water on a computer tower or laptop, remove the charging cable or power cord for safety. Also, unplug any accessories, such as the mouse and keyboard, to make sure these devices are not damaged also.

Remove as Much Water as Possible

If possible, turn your PC upside down to remove the water from the affected area. This is easier if you have a laptop. Leave the water to drip away, and leave your device off as you prop it up upside-down.

You should also use a towel to pat your device dry, paying special attention to small cracks and crevices where moisture penetrates.

If you have spilled water on the keyboard, you should follow the same basic steps mentioned above. If you have water in your tower, invert it so the water can drain away.

Allow the Computer to Air-Dry

Leave your PC to dry out for at least 24 hours. If you feel comfortable opening it, it may be helpful to remove any plastic casing to allow air to get in. You should disconnect and remove any components within your PC, such as your motherboard and hard drive.
